Not all that long ago that obesity with all of the complications were the domain of grown-ups. Over the last few decades things in the US have definitely deteriorated. In addition to more adults being overweight, children and teenagers are developing this condition at ever younger years. For children, the obvious and most influential people will be the parents, and education as well as awareness are critical. The parents, though, are the ones who are responsible for offering the most guidance and being the most positive role models properly. Obese kids are staring down the barrel of a plethora of physical and behavioral health problems. Beyond that, there are a lot of dangerous risks that will have both the means and the opportunity to develop into real problems later on in life. So for kids it is a terrible one-two punch that is nearly impossible to beat and overcome.
The particular medical conditions that any young person, child or teen who is obese will experience can be highly variable. Plenty of things influence these kids, like genetics. Kids and teens who suffer from severe obesity are more likely to develop a variety of conditions that cause problems for joints and bones. Load bearing joints, in particular, are more likely to develop issues. The feet and knees as well as the ankles and hips in particular are subject to stress on the skeleton. Kids are going to have to deal with joint pain, typically in their backs as well as constant low swelling around their joints. Arthritis in these children and teens is commonly diagnosed, as well.
Perhaps one of the oldest expressions out there is that kids are cruel. Most of us have experienced this in some form when we were kids. Kids who are obese are typically targets of intense bullying and extraordinary levels of verbal humiliation. It is any wonder how these children can get through all those years of school with their sanity intact. We all understand that that kind of long lasting abuse can have severe consequences later on. The constant verbal assaults will have a tremendous impact in areas such as self esteem, confidence and the list goes on.
The prospects for an obese child do not appear to be very promising for many reasons. When an obese child becomes an adult there is a long list of health problems and diseases that are at risk of. Is there a possibility to reverse the obese condition?
We know that obese teens are more likely to become very obese adults by 16 times more than a normal teen. This is very clearly not boding well for those teens. Because the risk factors are developed at an early age, they are likely to have a very poor quality of life as an adult.
If you are a child or young adult, it is incredibly important that you find a competent and qualified adult to talk to about your condition. It is important to be well informed as to the causes of this condition. Alternatively, something can be done about it, and it is never too late to begin the long journey back to good health.
